On February 5, 2012 the NFL SUPER BOWL will be played at Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indianapolis. Although Indianapolis has been host to many of the most prestigious sporting events in the world, it has never before had the honor of hosting a Super Bowl. This is America’s sports capital; it has the experience and the facilities to be a great host. If you plan to attend, this is what you need to know.

WHERE IS THE STADIUM?

The newly built Lucas Oil Stadium, where the game will be played, will accommodate 70,000 ticket holders for the Super Bowl. The stadium was completed in August of 2008. It is a state of the art facility. It is conveniently located on the south side of “the mile square”, which is the center most square mile area of the city. The mile square is bordered by West Street, North Street, East Street and South Street. The north side of the stadium sits directly on South Street. The stadium is also a few short blocks from Interstate 70, which runs through downtown Indianapolis. It is short walk (several blocks) to many of the best hotels downtown Indianapolis has to offer.

THE LAY OF THE LAND: Indianapolis is a sprawling city, surrounded by a circular beltway (I-465) and bisected by two major interstates, I-70 running east to west, and I-65 running north to south. There are many motels and hotels within the downtown area and around the outskirts of the city just off the beltway (I-465). The hotels located in downtown will be in high demand due to their proximity to everything related to the super bowl. The hotels and motels located on the outskirts of downtown, will offer a more suburban and sedate lodging experience.

THE PLACE TO BE: Spectator Guides, LLC., which is owned and operated by Indianapolis natives, has developed the “HOT LIST” of the very best places to stay while attending the 2012 Super Bowl in February. (See the Hot List below).

GROUND ZERO: As you are no doubt aware, the Super Bowl is more than just a football game; it’s a major event which includes ten days of celebration, the family friendly NFL Experience, and countless festivities in and around the Super Bowl Village. All this pre-game activity will take place just two blocks north of the stadium in the Indiana Convention Center and on Georgia Street, which connects the convention center with Conseco Field House, the home of the Indiana Pacers. So, if you want to be in the heart of it, these are the hotels and motels you want to book.

THE SPECTATOR GUIDES’ HOT LIST:

The Holiday Inn Express, 410 S. Missouri St., Indianapolis, Indiana. This hotel is located directly across the street from the Stadium. You can’t get any closer to the stadium. This hotel has the distinction of being the closest hotel to the stadium. It is a new hotel, built in 2008, but it is far from opulent.

The Omni Severin, 40 West Jackson Place, Indianapolis, Indiana. This opulent hotel is just south of Georgia Street, where most of the pre-game festivities will be held, and it is a short two blocks from the stadium. If you want it all, this is one of the best hotels we can recommend.

The Hilton Hotel & Suites, 120 West Market Street, Indianapolis, Indiana. This is another opulent hotel located just 4 blocks north of the stadium and 3 blocks from the heart of the pre-game festivities. It is in the heart of everything. This hotel also offers guests a chance to sleep onboard one of its private train cars (reserve early, if you hope to stay on board), which are housed within the confines of the hotel. This hotel pays tribute to the history of the railroad with the addition of the Grand Ball Room, which is annexed to the hotel as part of the original Union Station train depot.

The Canterbury Hotel, 123 S. Illinois Street, Indianapolis, Indiana. This fine hotel is an exceptional example of five star lodging.
